Bnei Yehouda Congregation is a small shul that was organized over ten years ago. A few members of the Kamishli community founded it on October 24th, 2000. We finalized the purchase of a house on Coney Island, between Avenue S & T in October 2007. Ten years have passed and we have built the shul into something amazing. We started with one minyan and now we have a few hundred congregants. We have a hundred families, groups of young men and women who learn with Rabbi Yochai Cohen and a group of seventy women who have shuirim every Shabbat with Rabbanit Esther Kamri.
We have many activities and many more volunteers. Our congregants are part of the working class and they never think twice when we need their help. We give weekly Shuirim, host Chinese Auctions and other parties. We have Bar Mitzvahs, Brit Milahs, Zohars, and Pidion Haben in our shul and we host all these parties free of charge. We have never turned down someone in need and we are more than eager to provide them with a shul for free.
Our shul has grown so much in the last ten years. It is truly a place where mitzvot and miracles happen. It is a very holy place. The only thing we have left to take care of is turning the house we bought ten years ago into a beautiful synagogue. The blueprints are ready, the permits are approved. However, since the shul is falling apart, we can’t stay in it anymore until it is renovated. The only thing we need is one million dollars to make this happen. We are asking your help with anything you can give. Thank you for your time.
